Tips to Working From Home With Kids

Spending time with grandkids | Victoria, TX

With millions of Americans on lockdown to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, many of us are working from home. If you’re working from home with kids, it can be even more challenging to adjust to a new routine. These tips can help you find the balance between being productive and spending time with your family this season.

Inform your boss and coworkers

Everyone is operating outside of the norm right now, so there should be plenty of empathy for at-home distractions. Talk to your boss and let them know there are kids around, and that there may be some interruptions. This way your work team will know what to expect and can more easily adjust to the circumstances.

Take breaks

Work boundaries can be less daunting for your kids if they know they’ll still get to see you throughout the day. When possible, take 15 minute breaks every 45 minutes or so to check in with your children and do something fun together. This can help them feel more engaged with activities that you’ve lined up for them, and will break up the monotony of a work day.

Try virtual play dates

Even though you can’t have the grandparents or your kids’ favorite sitter over to the house, you may be able to solicit their help virtually. If you have a big meeting or project you need to focus on, try arranging a virtual play date with a guardian. They could play a game, read a book, sing songs, or find other ways to occupy your kids for a little while so you can get your work done.

Atzenhoffer wishes you and your family a healthy and fun summer. Remember to call us if your vehicle needs service; we’ll schedule an appointment at a time that’s convenient for you.

Games to Play at Home With the Kids

Family at home | Victoria, TX

With the current stay-at-home orders, many of us are spending a lot more time with our children than we did before. A fun and easy way to connect with your kids during this time is to play games with them. Here are five fun games to play while we are all stuck inside together.

Paper games

Grab a sheet of paper and a few pencils or pens and try some classic games like hangman, dots & squares, “Why?  Because,” or even Battleship.

Card games

Dig out an old deck of cards and teach your kids your favorite card games. It can be as simple as Go Fish or something more complicated like Euchre.

Puzzles

We all have a collection of puzzles we have gathered over the years and never had time to do. We all have the time now. Turn puzzle building into a family activity.

Freeze dance

Turn on some fun music and play the freeze game. Whenever you stop the music, your kids have to freeze in place. Make it more challenging by having them freeze in different positions, like yoga poses, animals, or letters.

Remember to contact us at Atzenhoffer, if your family is need of a new vehicle for all of your future road trips and travels.

Road Trip Tips for Your Family’s Next Getaway

Family on Road Trip | Victoria, TX

It might be a while before you go on a long journey with your family — but it never hurts to plan your next trip in advance so it’s less stressful when the time comes to hit the road. Here are some road trip tips to get your planning off on the right foot.

Skip rush hour

Plan to leave late in the evening or early in the morning to avoid rush hour traffic. This should make your driving less stressful. And, if you have young kids, this could also encourage them to get some sleep while you drive.

Put an adult in the back

If you have an adult ride in the back with the kids, he or she can help keep them occupied with games and other activities. This is especially helpful if your kids are still rear-facing in their car seats.

Take a break from electronics

There is no denying the saving grace of a game or movie on a tablet when attitudes take a turn for the worse. However, letting your kids feel bored can ignite their imaginations to come up with unique games. They can also stare out the window and enjoy any passing scenery.

Bring on the snacks

Fun snacks can quickly brighten any mood during a long road trip. Along with some family favorites, pack some new treats for variety.

Call us at Atzenhoffer if you’re in need of a new vehicle for the road trips you’re planning for later this year or early next year. We’ll help match you with the right model to suit your needs and preferences.
